A Message for Gareth Thomas

I was so young when Blake's 7 started. Until a few weeks ago, all I had was faint memories about that brilliant show. The top two memories were Zen; the main computer of the Liberator; it was a hexagon brown screen with golden square lights that function randomly, plus a rectangle middle-light that was sunchronized with the computer's voice. The second memory was the sight of a female laying on sand while some colored disc-shaped creatures were moving slowly nearer to the woman trying to harm her.

A few weeks ago, I downloaded the four full seasons of Blake's 7. That show is amazing despite the fact it was made with 'primitive' technology if I may say so. I mean the ships, interiors, guns, tools.. anyone could make stuff like that at home. The whole show is a look at the future space travel with the eyes of the 70s minds. Still, Blake's 7 had something very special about it. It is indeed the only show that combines space sci-fi with theatrical acting. I am so glad that I exist in a time where I can post a line in my blog hoping that one day Gareth Thomas may actually read as a special message from little humble me: Thank you so much for inspiring me, I love you man.

ZANAC: MSX Game music on guitar

I was young, had no guitar effects (improvised the whole thing) technology wasn't my friend back then, I lacked a lot of gear, but I managed by recording a track into a tape, played the tape while recording live to another tape hehe... kinda messy but sounds like Zanac :)

Sun greeting our dinning table at 6:00AM

Another corner of the house, where the sun hits near the dinning table, isn't this the best place to have breakfast before going to work? Lace curtains shadow is visible as well as mom's crochet.

Lace curtain and flowers shadow

People ask me a lot where I got my artistic talents from? Simply.. Mom. Look at that... she always manages to surprise me with a beautiful view. This time at 6:00am, morning rays cast a beautiful shadows on the wall.

WalkBehind Hills on AGS

I want to explain a trick I pulled out of my pocket to create a 3D perspective out of a 2D image. Let's make a character walks uphill the front hills, then downhill behind them, then uphill the background far hills.

First create two hotspots, HS1 is the thin red line on the top edge of the nearer hills. And HS2 is the yellow thick rectangle on the bottom of the screen. Now you should have three views of the character. V1 which is the regular character view you're using. V2 which is a down-scaled view of the same character, and, V3 which is the same as V1 except that his up and down walkcycles are inverted. Create a walkable area that covers all the front hills, the two hotspots and at least the bottom visible parts of the back hills. Create a walkbehind area that covers the entire front hills. Now the scripting will do the trick by a few maneuvers with the hotspots, character views and the walkbehind baseline. If the character entered the room while he's on the front hills, make sure he enters anywhere between HS1 and HS2 and his view is V1, also, set the walkbehind base on top of the screen. If V1 walks into HS1, switch to V3 and set walkbehind base to the bottom of the screen, force V3 to walk a couple of pixels below HS1. Now if V3 walks back into HS1, switch to V1 and set walkbehind base to the top of the screen, force V3 to walk a couple of pixels down. If V1 walks into HS2, then nothing happens. Now the front hills are covered. Let's create a depth effect. If V3 walks into HS2, switch to V2 (the little scaled view). If V2 walks into HS1 nothing happens. So when V2 walks above HS1, he'd be tiny and walking on the far hills. If V2 walks into HS2 switch to V3. Now the idea is cleared, you can set the suitable conditions for the character if he entered the room from the back hills, or downhill the front hills. Also, you can use regions instead of hotspots. I used either one and worked fine, however regions are preferred.
That's about it. Let me know what you did and share ideas with me :)

Ortega: Extreme Parties

Welcome to Ortega: The planet of extreme parties. Never mind the high temperatures as long as you pick up a thermal underwear from Phleebhut's World O'Wonders. The views of the volcanic terrain of Ortega are breathtaking, you might be lucky enough to observe some live eruptions and quakes. Just make sure you have happy feet for the unstable chunks of floating rocks on hot lava.

Anastronaut: The Game

It's about time! Just like most of Sierra Adventure Games' fans, I got sick of waiting for the next SQ or whatever quest... so I gathered my geek knowledge, art, equipment and time to begin creating my own adventure game. Let me put it in the most non-selfish way: the main character is MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I'm using AGS. Now this may take a lot of time.. Hope I don't lose my enthusiasm.

At first, I used a 320x200 resolution.. However, I felt the rooms lacked space for more complex ideas, so I switched to 640x480. Now instead of using too much scrolling rooms or multiple rooms to perform a simple task, a player can enjoy full backgrounds with many tiny details and sprites. I did my best not to leave a non-clickable pixel in the game, so wherever the player tries to look or interact with something, different information is involved.

The game begins with Anas being stuck on a small asteroid that he wanted to investigate earlier after suspicious data readings. Soon he'll find out that the asteroids are used for scientific researches when something went wrong. Now I don't want to burn the main ideas but I'm still open for comments and more ideas.

+52°C

Last night my friend had been complaining about how hot the weather was, it was 20 degrees Celsius! I snapped for a second until I remembered that he was talking about Sweden. Well, Lars, this is my gift to you: the reading in my old Mercedes thermometer this afternoon.

Space Quest X: Latex Babes of Estros

I have always wondered about SQX... What would it be like? I have a feeling it wouldn't be about Roger being lost in Estros being hunted by babes in different colored latex swimsuits... One thing I know is if Roger got caught, the babes would do weird stuff to him. We've seen Thoreen threatening to shave his legs clean and more! But that was only one single idea from her pouch of torture methods. Anyway, the final judgement is going to be determined by the sea slug.

Star Trek 2009

I know this may be a little too late to mention but what the hell... first of all I loved the movie A.L.O.T. And I liked the idea behind giving Star Trek a goofy twist with a rush of adrenaline from the young cadets mixed with a little bit of stupidity. They seem more down to earth this way... but... Simon Pegg? REALLY????? When I first watched the movie (as with every movie I watch) I made my best not to know who's in it. And boy was I surprised to see Simon appearing in some dumped lab somewhere in the movie.
I have to admit I was thrilled with Kirk (Chris Pine) and managed to find him and his role so similar to Roger Wilco since I'm a big Space Quest fan. Chris gave Star Trek an awesome twist.

..and of course Spock is Spock (Zachary Quinto). Seeing his future version made it easier for me to accept his character.
I've always saved the cherry for last.. Nero (Eric Bana) is a state of art made into a shape of an alien! I was hardly concentrating on his lines! The makeup is just phenomenal and evil. It was suitable with all the hate and anger he has inside.

Allied Medicine - Anas Abdin

This time I tried enhancing the video by using a Canon lens. I also got a better tank for the dye effect and prepared a black-background set for most of the shooting.

Comic Page

When Melt was captured a few years ago by the invading troops that survived Earth's doomsday at 3146, they used to make sure he cannot perform mitosis by blocking his feet spores with a liquid substance similar to the compounds used in chemotherapy drugs for curing cancer.
...of course the guards had to play a little with the tin bucket.
